PLEASE HELP FUND MY ART PROJECT!! <3
Hi everyone!!
I created a kickstarter project to make a beautiful 100-120 page coffee table book of my very best photography and paintings/art..
Kickstarter is a company that allows you raise money to create. I am setting out with a goal of $5k. I know this is ambitious but I am hoping to make seriously quality coffee table books and other beautiful rewards for you to enjoy! The way kickstarter works is you can either donate or chose a donation(reward) level. Kickstarter uses amazon.com payments, no charges are processed unless I meet my goal! If I don’t reach my goal, you aren’t charged. If I reach my goal, you get a bunch of awesome goodies! and if I miraculously make it above and beyond my goal, everyone gets even better rewards. Win-Win!
I know times are tight, so I appreciate everything, even your taking time to read this! This is a very exciting (and scary!) undertaking for me, and to know I have your support means so much, sooo very much! It took me a while, but photography and visual arts are definitely my biggest passion and what I feel most confident about in life, and so this is a huge leap of faith for me to start the ball rolling in a very real and serious way (for me :P
I have a bunch of fun rewards and am very open to your input!

please check it out and everyday I will be posting a new photo or painting in Updates.
all my love & gratitude! kat
“many Americans can breathe easier because of the Clean Air Act. But its intended benefits have eluded many others. As of August nearly 300 of the roughly 1,600 high priority violators had held this dubious distinction for at least a decade, EPA enforcement data show — evidence of a continuing failure by regulatory agencies to keep up.
Within the bureaucracy, the enforcement lapses are hardly a secret. A 2009 report by the EPA’s inspector general found that “in many instances EPA and States are not addressing high priority violations … in a timely manner,” thereby allowing “continued emissions from facilities [that] may result in significant environmental and public health impacts, deterrence efforts being undermined, and unfair economic benefits being created.”

household drinking & ground water contamination are equally under-addressed by the US govt - and they wonder why we want to reject Keystone XL and why we don’t want hydraulic fracking for natural gas. because there are no safety guarantees, because their reports are blatant lies —
it would make so much more sense to inforce pollution laws and clean up than cause widespread illnesses and cancers that disable people and cause high medical bills, govt assistance and destroyed quality of life and crippled communities.

S&P laid blame for its decision to assign the AA+ rating directly on the political process in Washington. Even though lawmakers reached a decision on Aug. 2 to raise the government’s debt ceiling and avoid a potentially disastrous default, the deficit-reduction package that accompanied the deal won’t sufficiently improve the government’s fiscal health in the coming years, S&P said in a release Friday. A factor in that projection, S&P said, is that Republicans seem unwilling to allow the Bush-era tax cuts to expire.
“The majority of Republicans in Congress continue to resist any measure that would raise revenues, a position we believe Congress reinforced by passing the act,” S&P said.
The ratings agency said political dysfunction provoked the downgrade, noting that Congress seems to lack the ability to aid the weakening economy. And now, as S&P acknowledged, the downgrade might introduce a new source of strain.
“The political brinksmanship of recent months highlights what we see as America’s governance and policymaking becoming less stable, less effective, and less predictable than what we previously believed,” the company said. “The statutory debt ceiling and the threat of default have become political bargaining chips in the debate over fiscal policy.”
Although there are many socio-economic truths that cry out for dissemination, four seem most obvious: (1) Trickle-down economics is a hoax. Those who insist that giving tax breaks to the rich will result in jobs are lying. All we’re doing by not raising tax rates on the rich is losing trillions in revenue. (2) Today’s tax rates are the lowest in 80 years. (3) The middle-class is being eviscerated. And (4) the only institution capable of resisting the crushing downward forces on the wage market is organized labor.
…
The top tax-bracket is 35-percent, and that rate doesn’t kick in until you earn $379,150. And while every movie star (not actor, but movie star) is in the top bracket, you don’t hear them bitching about taxes the way you hear Wall Street bitching. That’s because Hollywood is fundamentally leftist; it’s also because, after deductions, no one is paying 35-percent. As Robert Reich has aptly noted, the top twenty-five hedge fund managers in 2007 earned a minimum of $1 billion each, but averaged only 17-percent in income tax.
"[People are] certainly entitled to think that [they’re right and I’m wrong], and they’re entitled to full respect for their opinions, but before I can live with other folks I’ve got to live with myself. The one thing that doesn’t abide by majority rule is a person’s conscience."

“…the more we use antibiotics, the more we lose them. It’s a battle played out on human bodies and in human wounds, with sky-high stakes. In many developed countries today, MRSA kills more people than Aids. The obvious conclusion, then, is that we should use antibiotics sparingly, and only when they are really needed to treat the sick. But in one crucial area we are doing the exact opposite — for the sake of a few people’s profits.”
Green Depot is a wonderful resource for buying Green Building Supplies, Green Household Cleaners.. They offer a beautiful selection of paints and stains that are Low to Zero - VOC (volatile organic compounds)..
They even have a whole Baby Dept full of 100% organic cotton clothes, bedding, mattress pads, furniture. I’ve read once that there are potential links between polyurethane foam pads (almost ALL foam padding in existence) and SIDS. They believe that all the chemicals in the pad, when heated to body temperature start off-gassing carbon monoxide - and as an infant, there is no strength to roll over or lie in a different position or get up, so the baby breathes in carbon monoxide all night long. This is why I was so excited Green Depot has the organic cotton mattress pads because it’s nice to have safer choices!!
Side note, there is formaldehyde in polyurethane foam, and I remember when women were getting crazy horrible rashes from their Victoria’s Secret bras and they found high amounts of formaldehyde in the cups and women were like, why is there formaldehyde in the bras at all? it’s because it’s just one of the toxic components of foam padding, they must have had an unbalanced batch of badness go out with that particular bra line though (this is why i’ve switched to cloth only bras..) Oh not to mention the amount of chemical flame retardants put into the foam because the polyurethane foam itself is highly combustible. so not yummy. It’s amazing how many chemicals are hidden in plainsight, isn’t it? It’s a dirty, dirty shame.
So if you can, try to support companies, such as Green Depot, who value your health and the planet, and make your home a little more friendly to living things. :)

cellophane-windowed envelopes..
can we please do away with them?
it’s entirely depressing how many i rip out of my recycling each day.. they’re kind of pointless. clearly envelopes can be made with no plastic film over the “window” as they’re usually enclosed to put your check in..
also, 100% post-consumer/recycled paper that is not chlorine bleached in any way would be a huge nice step in the right direction as well for all these useless bills/mailings!!
so many of our skincare/ makeup/ personal hygiene products contain a multitude of caustic/ harmful / bioaccumulative/ environmentally detrimental chemicals — even ones labeled “natural” or “organic” can have some lurking synthetics hidden away. not everything can be 100% safe but at least this site can help you make some educated decisions about what you use on your body.
